What are the duties required in the ninth commandment?

The duties required in the ninth commandment are, the preserving and promoting of truth between man and man,839 and the good name of our neighbour, as well as our own;840 appearing and standing for the truth;841 and from the heart,842 sincerely,843 freely,844 clearly,845 and fully,846 speaking the truth, and only the truth, in matters of judgment and justice,847 and in all other things whatsoever;848 a charitable esteem of our neighbours;849 loving, desiring, and rejoicing in their good name;850 sorrowing for,851 and covering of their infirmities;852 freely acknowledging of their gifts and graces,853 defending their innocency;854 a ready receiving of a good report,855 and unwillingness to admit of an evil report, concerning them;856 discouraging talebearers,857 flatterers,858 and slanderers;859 love and care of our own good name, and defending it when need requireth;860 keeping of lawful promises;861 studying and practising of whatsoever things are true, honest, lovely, and of good report.862
